“We do not inherit the earth from our parents; we borrow it from our children” (Léopold Sédar Senghor)
The approach is first and foremost practical: to get the very best fruit to be able to make
the very best wines. Since the 90s the Martin brothers, strong partisans of integrated agriculture,
have been protecting their vines with a treatment strategy of minimum intervention, in order
to have healthy vines, with no pollution and respect for the environment over the long term.
Their very personal approach to organic vinegrowing, begun in 2003, became official in 2006
when they undertook a partnership with a certifying organisation (AB). This type of farming,
without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, allows them to wholly fulfil the environmental
objectives of the estate. Just one look at the vineyads shows that worms and insects are well
established around the different plants that grow near the vines. In organic vinegrowing
preventive work is crucial, says Stéphane. Founded on observation, on detailed work of the soil,
on the reinforcement of the plants’ resistance, on yield control and the use of products of natural
origin etc. year after year the approach reinforces the expression of our terroirs in the wines:
on the estate we assert the true meaning of AOC. |
